Position Summary: The Production Accounting Manager oversees financial reporting, budgeting, and inventory management related to production activities. This role prepares and analyzes financial reports, ensures accurate reflection of production in financials, and supports audits and regulatory compliance. The person in this position manages inventory reconciliation, assists with ERP system data processing, and conducts detailed cost and profitability analyses. Additionally, the Operational Accounting Manager supervises and develops a team of production accountants, driving process improvements and ensuring timely, accurate financial information to support business decision-making.

Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities Of This Role:
Financial Reporting & Analysis
  • Prepare reports summarizing and forecasting company business activity, including income, expenses, and earnings based on past, current, and projected operations.
  • Provide management with timely reviews of the organization’s financial status and progress across various programs and activities.
  • Prepare reports required by regulatory agencies.
  • Perform financial analyses, including sales, gross margins, beef cut-outs, yield, and cost analysis.
  • Conduct cost/benefit and breakeven analyses for projects assigned by the Corporate Controller.
Budgeting & Audit Support
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and review budget proposals, including supporting documentation and justifications related to operational and cost accounting.
  • Assist with overseeing audits of the company’s accounts.
Inventory & Production Accounting
  • Oversee the management and reconciliation of inventory.
  • Ensure production is accurately reflected in the financial statements.
  • Assist in processing production data into the ERP system.
  • Work with processors to streamline the exchange of production and inventory information.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Supervise and develop all production accountants, providing guidance and support to ensure accuracy and efficiency in production accounting processes.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience To Be Succesful:
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is required.
  • 5+ proven experience in financial cost accounting leadership role.
  • Previous supervisory experience is required.
  • Must have prior experience working on the beef protein accounting team.
Specialized Skills Needed For The Role:
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required.
  • Strong background in cost accounting, with the ability to analyze and manage complex data.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively—both verbally and in writing—with customers, vendors, leadership, and team members.
  • Ability to balance attention to detail with a strategic, big-picture perspective.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and a high level of accuracy in work.
  • Prior experience in the beef industry is required.
  • Advanced understanding of cost accounting principles, P&L reporting, and critical analysis related to beef yields and cut-out performance.
